NEW YORK
U.S. stocks ended a quiet pre-holiday session higher on Friday, even as
the market posted weekly losses, as investors saw weaker-than-expected
existing home sales as boosting chances that the Federal Reserve will
cut interest rates.

WASHINGTON
Resales of U.S. homes fell 2.6% in April to a seasonally adjusted
annualized rate of 5.99 million, the slowest pace in four years, the
National Association of Realtors said Friday.

U.S. stocks lost steam on Thursday, as investors consolidated gains from
an early rally sparked by an unexpected surge in new home sales, signs

Sales of new U.S. homes unexpectedly surged in April, rising by 16% to a
seasonally adjusted annual rate of 981,000, the Commerce Department said

New orders for U.S.-made durable goods increased 0.6% in April, boosted
