NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks traded lower Friday, as investors reconsidered
a recent rally and pondered the possibility of a sharp economic slowdown
and the impact of a congressional probe into Hewlett-Packard Co.

CHICAGO -- New York Times Co. said it expects third-quarter earnings to
be less than those of a year earlier amid ongoing weakness in the print
advertising market and due to the impact of staff reduction costs.

Tribune, Chandlers reach agreement
LOS ANGELES -- Tribune Co.'s board has approved restructuring two
partnerships in which the Chandler family has an interest, in a move
that may help the company to settle a dispute with its largest
shareholder and pursue actions to further shareholder value, officials
said Thursday evening.

Generic drug makers, PBMs not seen hurt by Wal-Mart pricing move
SAN FRANCISCO - Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s unveiling of a $4 price tag on a
collection of generic drugs in its stores in Tampa, Fla. will have
little to no impact on the profits of either generic drug makers or
pharmacy benefits managers, analysts said Thursday, because the drugs on
the list are already being made by multiple manufacturers and are being
sold at a tremendous discount.

profits after a strong run-up in the market since the start of
September, with the latest producer-price report merely serving to
confirm consumer price data last week that showed inflation under
