The Heat Is On...New Yorkers can call 311 or click 'OEM'
Temps in the upper 90s coupled with high humidity send heat indexes
soaring past 100 degrees in Midwest and Northeast.
Excessive heat advisories and warnings are in effect for the region, and
cooling centers are open in NYC and New Jersey.
Many senior and community centers serve as cooling centers. New Yorkers
can call 311 or log on to www.nyc.gov/oem beginning at 9 a.m. to fine
the nearest cooling center or public pool.
