Consumers flocked to stores in September
CHICAGO -- A spell of chilly weather, a late start for back-to-school
shopping and lower gas prices all contributed to unusually strong
same-store sales for U.S. retailers in September.

Wal-Mart's Sept. same-store sales miss Street view
CHICAGO -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. on Thursday blamed tough year-ago
comparisons and weak apparel sales for an anemic 1.3% increase in
September same-store sales, which missed Wall Street's estimates.
