U.S. stocks mixed, volatile as oil falls, yields rise

NEW YORK
U.S. stocks were mixed in volatile trading Wednesday, as rising bond
yields kept a lid on the market, offsetting enthusiasm over oil prices
backing away from $69 a barrel, blow-out earnings from Morgan Stanley,
and a $22.5 billion share buy-back from Home Depot Inc.

Morgan Stanley profit jumps 40%, outpacing expectations

NEW YORK
Morgan Stanley on Wednesday said its second-quarter profit jumped 40%,
outdoing rivals who reported last week as the firm said debt-trading
revenues rose to their second-highest tally ever and the firm avoided
the extent of subprime losses suffered by competitors.
