U.S. stocks end mixed; Dow briefly hits 14,000
NEW YORK
U.S. stocks closed mixed Tuesday, with upbeat earnings sending the Dow
Jones Industrial Average to a record high finish, but just shy of
14,000, a level it topped earlier in the day.

Economic Report: Home builders' confidence plunges again in July
WASHINGTON
With interest rates moving higher, a glut of homes sitting unsold, and
the problems in the subprime mortgage market worsening, U.S. home
builders' confidence in the housing market plunged further in July,
according to a monthly survey released by the National Association of
Home Builders.
