U.S. stock investors eye another test of bear-market lows

The U.S. stock market's climb on Thursday had investors steering clear
of three-month lows hit earlier in the week, with the bear-market
bottom called by some in November holding for now. But not all believe
the three-month lows will stand.

First-time claims for state jobless benefits were unchanged in the
latest week,but remain at a high not seen since the early 1980s, the
Labor Department
reports.

Shares of Hewlett-Packard to open lower as investors react to
financial results showing the blue-chip tech giant posting a 13%
decline in first-quarter profit and offering up a lackluster outlook
for the second quarter of fiscal 2009.

Sprint Nextel posts another quarterly loss after shedding 1.3 million
